Winter Solstice

Amaryllis bloomed, welcoming the winter,

Feeling the turning of the axis, expecting

Longer days here, but shorter elsewhere.

Time to clean the house for the guest,

Sweeping, mopping, dusting, and wiping

Windows not to erase the particles of the past

But to see the path–longer days here

Within the equation without robbing others.

You know how to treasure the days – even while mopping and dusting.
