Gadgets

I’m learning to love them.  They are becoming extensions

For my diminishing bodily and psychological functionalities—

Little beeps of reminders not to forget to check the stove,

Oven, appointments…, the invisible crutches I depend on.

I won’t grow out of them, unlike a wobbly toddler

Who grows solid and tall, passing the dangerous height

Of the table.  The demand for gadgets increases,

Asking for more apps.

We, the baby boomers, are standing, not stumbling,

As long as we brace ourselves, re-entering the revolving

Door of life, now facing the setting sun, squinting eyes,

Moving on, leaning on strong shoulders, unapologetic

About the AI-run gizmos.

Taking care of this moment—remembering to charge

The contraptions for tomorrow to continue today,

Changing the way things yesterday.

No stagnant moment.  No moss grows on rolling rocks.

I love this poem Yenna. It’s so true – as we get older we can make the devices work for us, rather than being victims to them. From Joanne Culley (one of your fellow PJ Writers).
